Over 1000 monsters lurk around every corner of the park. 2011 will celebrate the 39th year of the spectacular. Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park was originally was modeled after Calico, California, a ghost town resulted after the California silver rush. Already having a Ghost town section of the park, this became the designated area for a one night Halloween event in 1979. Soon after, it would encompass the entire park and today the event lasts over a month, and is responsible for about half of the revenue of the park year-round. All rides are still open and dressed up with frightening decorations and sounds. The park lights are kept to a minimum and giant fog machines create a 160 acre haze. There are also seven live shows throughout each night including the controversial “hanging” show that has been loved as well as criticized every year. Every maze has a different theme from Nightmare on Elm Street to dollhouse. Each night makes horror movies come to life and has set the standard for adult scare entertainment. If you want to be scared out of your wits at the world’s first, largest, and longest running Halloween even the rides, monsters, mazes, and shows at Knott’s Halloween Haunt will do more than satisfy.
